Engagement
June 27
After over 4 years living together, Ian and I are finally engaged to be married. :) We are planning on next spring because between now and January there are major events (birthdays, mainly) every month.
After we're married, Ian can adopt Kendra which will mean we all have names that "match" and she will feel more like she belongs with the rest of us.
Ian's Divorce
June 14
It has been a very long time coming, but Ian's final divorce decree was granted on June 7, 2004. Now we can get on with things like getting married followed by Ian adopting Kendra.
Despite the picture on this page, I don't feel any ill-will towards Ian's ex other than that she took so long and the impact that has had on Kendra's life.
The Documentary
For the last 6 months or so we have had a man with a camera following us around every time something major happens in our lives. So far he has filmed an initial bit, our search for a new house, the move, a bit after Christmas with the new baby, and the first day with our new worker. He also leant us a camera to film ourselves over Christmas and the baby's birth. Unfortunately, we weren't allowed to film the birth because it was a caesarean section.
The original purpose was to possibly have us in a documentary about Asperger Syndrome. However, it looks like we may now instead be included in a series about families where the parents have mental problems. It's a bit of a risk that they might put the wrong spin on it and confuse Asperger's with a mental illness, but we are working on making it clear that it isn't.
Filming for the documentary is probably over now. We went to Blackpool with them while my friend was visiting.
June 27: The latest on the documentary is that they're still not sure whether they want us in it. They are planning on calling the series My Crazy Family, which I disagree with because of the connotations of mental illness. We suggested My Weird Family, but they claimed that the connotations of that were worse. Not to us. Anyway, they e-mailed and said they may not want us after all and I replied that that would be a relief in a way because I'm concerned about the impact on Kendra socially if she's seen as having crazy parents.
